Dell should make a small device that would be housed in the lower part of the seat belt device. when clicking the seat belt together the device would act as a kill switch allowing the car to start when the key is turned. Without the two together the key turn alone will not start the engine. The safety belt has to be worn and in place before starting the car. The lower part of the belt would be hard wired to the computer under the rug sending a signal to the computer that the driver is safley secured in the seat. This device would only be for the driver side seat. This idea is synonymous to the keys with chips that was designed for security. This idea is designed for safety of all those on the road. It does not have to stop with cars, but can be implemented to construction vehicles, private planes, buses, semi's, etc.... it would not take much for dell to partner with automakers to make this product and save lives. 5 Comments »

Medical History USB Drive (or whatever)

Boy, whatever happened to the idea of having a smartcard or flashcard (something akin to an SD) or a USB drive on which your entire history of medical records and charts are kept?

I've lived in 12 addresses in 16 years, and every time I move, I say goodbye to a doctor and all the specialists who've consulted. Getting those guys to share records with my new doctor is like pulling teeth. I just want something that a patient could ask doctors to copy their own medical records onto, and reasonably portable, and that is widespread and widely recognized -maybe it could have a big red cross on it, or one of those stick-with-a-snake dealios (that is, Rod of Asclepius) on it.

This is not like a photon torpedo or a teleporter, this is technology that is available now. What's needed is some big market player on the technology side with some leverage to promote and popularize it - because the medical community is too disjoint to quickly come to consensus about issues related to technology. Make it something that is associated with Dell and has an altruistic spin - "Look what Dell is doing for the health of your family. Dell cares (tm)". But make it something that will still be readable over the course of a human lifetime (not, say, like an 8" floppy) and give it reasonable encryption. Why should I have to rely on some dime-store jewelry to tell ER workers that I am allergic to penicillin? 6 Comments »

What about a "certified environmental friendly" (or something to that effect) sticker to raise environmental awareness, as well as possibly a little sticker on the (RED) initiative for qualifying pcs?

This would raise awareness, both to the one buying the pc and whoever sees the pc. It wouldn't cost a huge amount, it'd make dell stand out, and make the consumer feel good. 3 Comments »

This idea involve a product that will help physicians, insucrance company and government to have better accountability for the medical care of our community. Some companies have programs called EMR(Electronic Medical Record) but few survive due to the expense that is involved in upgrading and maintenance. Dell Corporation can provide EMR geared to different medical specialties and be able to communicate with insurance companies and government agencies. Product could be expanded to incude local pharmacies and allow to submit prescriptions at the time of the visit, verify that is approved by the insurance company and be able to pick up prescription in a timely manner, This product will be of benefits to all parties. Dell handhelds can be empowered by softwares in the HEALTH field. I think (according to my 4 year experience in our Ministry of Health and Medical Education) and it is obvious (according to researches I have done for health software market and 2 years of experience with networking for health using Microsoft technologies) that there is a very huge gap in this part of the market. May I ask you to help me find any possible way to interact with developers and find better communications channel to send ideas (and maybe collaborate in their development).

Special parts for disabled people

Dell should provide parts specific for disabled people. Such braile keyboards for the blind (http://www.sighted.com/english/braillein.html) interface for severily injured people (tetraplegic, quadriplegic, armless..) (http://www.sforh.com/pointing/mindmouse-head.html) or promote research among the great centres or schools to offer several kind of equipments that could allow the usage of computers as theirs "body" extensions.

I know this could not give great profits to the company, but as far as I know, this put Dell strongly ahead of any other company as the company that "Everyone matters". 6 Comments »

Improvement of Medical Care

I read that Michael Dell wanted to improve medical care in the world. I am a MD and I tried this idea on Bill Gates and never got to anyone. Basically, most doctors understand anatomy, physiology, disease processes and pharmacology. They could understand/ust the latest medical information if it were readily accessed. However, try to search Medline about a topic and you may see that thousands of citations are listed, but one can only get abstracts or titles for most items.

I have tried to search a particular topic for a medical school lecture or a paper and end up spending hundreds or thousands of dollars and many hours to get information that I could comprehend and use with only minutes of time were it easily available. I proposed that the world literature (at least the last 10 years) be loaded into a databank (in English) where it could be accessed by hyperlinks or other mechanism that allows one to go right to the information desired without reading 10,000 full articles. This would be a massive undertaking, but once done, the database could be kept up to date with maybe only a few hundred programmers. Medical schools, hospitals and doctors could subscribe to this database (I would pay $5,000 a year myself for such access).

I believe that if a physician could have ready access at his fingertips to the newest medical knowledge, then the average doctor could be a super-doctor. If the doctors are too lazy, sell access to the patient for a particular medical condition and they could determine if they are receiving state-of-the-art therapy for their conditions.

I have seen patients waste money and time (months or years even) trying to obtain treatment that is effective, only to finally find a knowledgable doctor after three of four tries.

I realize that this is a software problem, but hardware would be needed to use this program. I contacted the best known software GURU first and was ignored, so I thought that Michael Dell may have an interest.

Corporate / Healthcare Sales - 24x7 access to Sales - Bring back Rapid Response Team!

As an IT Administrator with 700+ computers within our company, it frustrates me to no end that our sales representative, and -only- our sales rep, can make changes to quotes that he/she originally generated. Additionally, we are on our 5th rep in 3 years. When one leaves, they haven't been hiring new ones. Instead, they have just divvy up the workload among the current reps. This results in reps who never pick up the phone anymore but only respond to voicemail/emails (slowly). I didn't mind so much until last year..

As of mid-2006, at least there was something called the 'Rapid Response Team' ..

Are you a corporate customer with a Dell quote that needed to be updated/modified on a tight deadline? Can't get a hold of your rep? No problem.. You could simply call the Rapid Response Team and you would be placed into a pool of sales reps who were able to pretty much modify anything currently in the system, or generate a new quote based on your current pricing terms/discounts. The quote sent to you would even have your normal sales rep's name on it..

No more..

Now the only thing available to us is the Dell Premier Page, which is fine for standard 'Fun with Dick and Jane' PC quotes. However, if you need anything non-standard, and are unable to find it on the absolutely horrid Dell parts search page, you are pretty much out of luck.

How about giving us a couple of backup individuals for our rep, who can actually make changes to our quotes, that I can call if our guy is in training for most of the day (but not actually out). Better yet, bring back the Rapid Response team. Based on market reports, I suspect it was along the lines of ‘Hey.. Those corporate guys don’t really need quotes right away do they? Let’s try to save a few bucks because we sell our consumer PC’s on such a razor thin profit margin..’….

The fact that some home user can call Dell at 3am and spec out a completely new system from scratch, yet a Corporate user can't make the most simple change to an existing quote (a real quote, not an E-Quote on the Premier page) where 10+ systems are being purchased without talking to a specific rep. is unacceptable to me.. 1 Comment »

I was visiting my Father the other day and his Hearing Aids just do not do a very good Job. But My Father can ready very well and speaks perfectly fine. Yet I find myself having trouble communicating. My idea is to take the Text Capabilities of the phone minimize it to local RFI and include a remote keypad for others to commnicate to the elderly. Local RFI would keep the cost down compared to using normal Phone Texting Cell lines. Something that hangs around the neck and the elderly can simply look down to read. Flashing LED to let them know they have a message? 2nd generation could include voice recognition that work with Hearing Aids. maybe an option that also included the mobel phone service as well. This would only work for those who can read & speak but not hear very well. other models could follow depending on the elderly's capabilities depending on hearing, sight and speach. Comment »

Just in time healthcare education

I am trying to impart 25 years worth of nursing to a diverse group of nurses in a rural acute care facility. Some have no internet access at home and are not familiar with the e-mail that is available to them through the facility. Others grew up with technology. As a group there is a varying degree of healthcare knowledge performance gaps. Finding ways to impart the background knowledge that I have is a challenge in that I can not provide real-time training to everyone when a situation becomes a teachable moment or when an MD is explaining a key piece of info that helps the nurses assimilate a bit more.
I would like to partner with Dell and Google (I already sent them my idea) to use laptop with video/audio file capbilities, projector and other available technologies that would enable me to capture those teachable moments, file them and make them available for all staff to use. Learning on the job in a health care environment occurs in a both synchronous and asynchronous manner.
I think I can prove, with your and Google's help, that RNs can assimilate and synthesize knowledge better by "just-in-time" or real-time learning. Also, I think that by having tutorials, inservices, and posting staff meeting notes in a way that viewing can be synchronous or asynchronous, we can accomplish what we need to in a more efficient manner. I would enjoy the challenge that this opportunity presents and believe that this can translate into decreased business costs related to developing proficient nurses within a healthcare organization. Your time and energy on my behalf is appreciated.

Dell, replicate the success/efforts within Healthcare to other sectors

You have worked for and created a very good Healthcare and Life Sciences Solutions architecture and structure for the Healthcare industry. Some of the solutions provided are truly amazing.

I suggest that Dell replicates the solutions architecture albeit modifications required for the different Industry sectors viz., eGovernance, Automotive industry, Media and Entertainment, Finance, Manufacturing industries, to name a few.

I’m not sure whether these solutions are/is accessible/available to Healthcare providers in India and around the world. The Healthcare architecture you have could work wonders for these Healthcare providers, especially those in India. Healthcare in India is a huge market, which has now started to open up to solutions providers. If Dell were to tap into this, it could be a great move and help build the growing Dell brand.

Another sector making news is eGovernance. It has only been in the last 5-6 years that the government has opened up to the need of eGovernance. I know for sure that Intel and Microsoft are helping the Indian Governments in some states for the implementation of eGovernance. If Dell were to enter this sector, it could see quite a good amount of increase in market cap.

Laptops Keyboard lifting mechanism to reduce RSI

Sorry to say but i'm going to have to make this a slightly vague description.

At home and at work i prefer the use of a desktop, with obviously an external keyboard.

Laptops give me RSI. why you may ask?
The keyboard layout is tiny, and odd angled.
So, whenever i use a laptop i make sure i hook up an external keyboard as well.

How about a keyboard lifting mechanism ?

- How it'd work -
When you clap open the display (clamshell), internal systems either hardware based, or hardware with a software controller would lift up the keyboard, and slightly slant it toward you.
This would cause the keyboard to be at a more natural angle compared to standard laptop keyboard layouts, and hopefully reduce RSI caused by using a laptop without an external keyboard.

Under the keyboard there would need to be a tray that prevents dirt from reaching into the computer.
Plus, the keyboard would need sufficient support ridges / pillars when it's lifted to keep it rigid when performing the typing. 3 Comments »

HCPC Codes

We are a DME company. I believe the healthcare to insurance to Medicare industry is fragmented. The HCPC codes for Medicare are not the same as some insurances, for example: BCBS. There should be universal codes for items, followed by all. Recently, in May of this year, the healthcare industry finally came up with NPI numbers. This is after going through UPIN numbers, separate numbers for Medicaid, etc. I believe a manufacture of an item should submit it to a central insurance-Medicare for coding before it is sold. 1 Comment »

Dell start a campaign to get your smoker employees to stop smoking. For one do not allow anyone to smoke on the Dell campus or affiliated sites. Start a detoxification program as well, you need healthy employees who will file less health claims, which in the long run save you health insurance money!
