Double Sided Monitors

160 points posted to Monitors and Displays, New Product Ideas by nicole112707 Jul 3

What if you had a double sided Monitor? This would be great solution for schools that have computer rooms seating 2 people to a desk/table facing each other, or even an office environment with partner desks. You could still have the flexibility to raise/lower your screen, or tilt back and forth. This would be attractive to consumers trying to cut down on the price of purchasing multiple monitors at one time. Even the consumer that only sits one to a desk could use the option to show what they are doing to someone sitting across from them. I don't know how many times I’ve been in my boss’s office and he had to turn his monitor around to show me something. Or, maybe you can put a slide show on it... it would be a lot more attractive to look at pictures than the back of ones monitor.... just a thought!

How do you adjust the hight of the monitor to suit both people? Will there be two displays on one stand or one single display unit? A simple diagram would make this clearer.

I'll have to draw one up and get back to you!

This is actually an interesting idea. Where I work, we see clients who sit opposite our staff at desks. Our computer monitors are placed on the desk inbetween the staff and client (for lack of a better place to put them). This creates a rather large dead area on the client's side of the desk. We currently try to place brochure holders there to promote some of the services we offer. This hasn't proven to be very effective, but better than nothing.

Now, I'm envisioning a double-sided monitor. A slide-show could be displayed by default showing our other services. And maybe even have our staff able to send data to the second monitor (to confirm client info, show appointment times, show amount due for payment, etc...).

At first glance, I thought this sounded like a dumb idea, but after reading it and thinking about it. I really rather like it. Definately something that should be looked into more.

Use two displays and a distribution amplifier.

Sorry but this just doesn't sound practical.
